June OwlCrate!

Wow I feel like I just opened my May OwlCrate last week! But alas it is that time again. The theme for this month’s box is ROYALTY!

I will start this by saying this is by far the best OwlCrate that I have received. I mean thats not saying much, this is only my third box so I don’t have much to base this opinion on. But seriously I’m in love this month. (My obnoxious amount joy may be because I was really kind of bummed with the box last month just an fyi). Heads up the absolute first thing that I noticed about this month’s box was the weight, this box was super heavy. But that makes sense when you open it up and realize that the book for this month is a 500 page hardcover.

Here is a picture of what was included in this months box.

Speaking of the book, the main attraction for this box is the new release hardcover, here is the information that I got from the Harper Collins website:

The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.

Like that could go wrong.

Book Description

EDWARD is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown. . . .

JANE is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than in romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended . . .

GIFFORD is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.

THE PLOT THICKENS as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?

The comical, fantastical, romantical, entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey but not really

Lady Jane Grey, sixteen, is about to be married to a total stranger—and caught up in an insidious plot to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But that’s the least of Jane’s problems. She’s about to become Queen of England.

Like that could go wrong.

I am extremely excited for this book. I usually shy away from historical fiction, I’m not going to lie I usually find them pretty boring unless they are about my favorite time period. But this book I will actually give a shot, it seems as though it will be absolutely magical and hysterical and I’m super excited to read this. It’s nice to step out of your reading comfort zone every once and a while, right?

As for the extra bookish goodies for this month I am super impressed, while most of the items will be going into my “if I ever actually get a job this will be my prize/give away box” box, I still really like the items. The first item is an art print with a quote from the “Red Queen”. We also received an exclusive set of magnetic bookmarks by Craftedvan, as well as a funko mystery mini figure (mine was Merida from Brave). However my absolute FAVORITE bookish extra for this month is a bracelet from Rich Love Shoppe. I love this bracelet so much because it actually fits me! I am a big girl so most generic jewelry does not fit me, so the fact that this does and it is actually cute is a HUGE win for me!

If you have ever considered subscribing to OwlCrate I really suggest that you do. Opening this box is absolutely like a little Christmas that happens every month. To subscribe you can check out the link right here —> OwlCrate!

If you want to check out the items from the box for yourself. Below are links to the items as well as pricing information:

Disney Funko Mystery Mini $5.95 While I can not find a link to purchase these from Funko, I got the price from another retailer. So be warned prices may vary.

Handmade “Lunar Chronicles” inspired bracelet $12.00 Okay this link will take you to the “Rich Love Shoppe” Etsy page. They are  currently taking a break which means that you can see reviews for their past sales and pictures of products from past sales, but you can not browse items or check prices. So I’m going to be honest with you…I totally made up the price for the bracelet. I am just saying what I would pay for it, so the actual price of this product may be lower or higher. The world may never know.

Magnetic Bookmarks $7.17 This cute set of three bookmarks was created by Craftedvan. While the set sent in the June OwlCrate is an exclusive they do sell sets of book marks on their site that are extremely cute (like the owl ones that I have linked). So for pricing I based it off of their other sets of three bookmarks.

“Red Queen” Inspired Art Print $12.00 While I could not find this exact art print for sale, the link will take you to the artist’s shop where they have countless book related art prints to choose from.

“My Lady Jane” $17.99 This book is by authors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows

Also included in every box is a letter from the author(s), this box also included a paper crown and a coupon for $10 off the purchase of a bookmark from MyBookmark-shop.com. These items are not available for purchase so I have no pricing details for those. I can tell you that this box is $29.99 a month + $6.99 shipping and handling. There are 3 and 6 month plans that do bring down the overall price and you can check out that information here.

Just a heads up the theme for next months box is “Good vs. Evil.” They announced on their instagram that July’s box will be like nothing that they have ever done before and actually two different boxes will be sent out to subscribers. Half of the subscribers will get the “good” themed box full of hero related items, and the other half will receive the “Evil” themed box full of villain related items. (The book will be the same no matter what box you get, only the extra bookish goodies will differ.) ALSO current subscribers get a sneak peek at one of the items for the next months box, and the preview item for next month is a full-sized POP figure from funko. So for all of you peeps that are into that sort of thing you might want to check into ordering next months box!

May OwlCrate!

The theme for this month’s Owl Crate was “Steampunk.” This months box was extremely jewelry heavy, which for some is nice. Like usual the items included in this box are from mostly small companies which I absolutely support, and I think is awesome. Also this box comes with a new release hardcover and copy of a letter from the author which is really cool as well.

With that all being said, I’m going to be straight forward with you. This months box was kind of a miss for me. I will say that I have never really been into the steampunk scene and I actually know nothing about it so most of the extra items for this month will be things that I give away. However  I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE BOOK THEY SENT THIS MONTH!!! Peter Pan was always my favorite growing up. And I have read dark re-tellings of Peter Pan in the past so I am super excited to give this book a chance. There is also a really cool Peter Pan inspired print that I plan on framing and keeping on my book shelf.

Below is a picture of everything that we received this month (sans the owl candles and the white lantern, those are mine haha).

And here is the description for the book!

London has been destroyed in a blitz of bombs and disease. The only ones who have survived are children, among them Gwen Darling and her siblings, Joanna and Mikey. They spend their nights scavenging and their days avoiding the ruthless Marauders, the German army led by Captain Hanz Otto Oswald Kretschmer.

Unsure if the virus has spread past England’s borders but desperate to leave, Captain Hook hunts for a cure, which he thinks can be found in one of the survivors. He and his Marauders stalk the streets snatching children for experimentation. None ever return. Until the day they grab Joanna.

As Gwen sets out to save her, she meets a daredevil boy named Pete. Pete offers the assistance of his gang of Lost Boys and the fierce sharpshooter Bella, who have all been living in a city hidden underground. But in a place where help has a steep price and every promise is bound by blood, it will cost Gwen. And are she, Pete, the Lost Boys, and Bella enough to outsmart Captain Hook?

As I said before I am super excited to read this book that is actually the beginning of a series (there will be at least one more!). Peter Pan has always been my favorite, I loved the idea of Neverland growing up, and the thought of flying and never growing up still appeal to me to this day. This is definitely a book that I would have probably picked up on my own had it not been included in this box.

So what all did I get this month? Check out the list of items below!

Infernal Devices inspired ring $6.00 (I think this ring was an OwlCrate exclusive, but this is a similar type ring from the same shop so that is what I am basing my pricing off of)

Skeleton Key Necklace $9.00

Steampunk Nail-Wraps $10.00 (Again I think these were an exclusive, so here is a very similar item from the same shop.) ALSO I think they are currently running a sale for Memorial Day so all nail wraps look like they are 50% off.

Metal Steampunk Key Pin $7.95

Peter Pan Art Print $12.00

“Everland” by Wendy Spinale $10.58

Also in the box was a letter from the author as well as some gold flash temporary tattoos that are promotion materials for the book. Neither of these items are for sale as far as I can tell so I have no pricing details for them. This box is $29.99 a month + $6.99 shipping and handling. There are 3 and 6 month plans that do bring down the overall price and you can check out that information here.

Even though I am not a huge fan of the extra stuff in the box for this month I am super excited for the book and I am OBSESSED with the art print. Overall I am happy and I am super excited for next months box, the theme of which is ROYALTY!

April OwlCrate!

This was my very first OwlCrate and I am super excited about everything inside! I decided to sign up for this subscription  box for a few reasons. The main being that I am going to be a teen librarian in a few months, this subscription box will encourage me to read books outside of my regular comfort zone so I will be better able to make recommendations to patrons. Also I might just stumble upon my new favorite book. You never know right? Another reason is obviously there will be things that come in these boxes that I will never use. I plan on putting those aside and using them as small prizes for various activities and programs at the library. I know what you’re thinking and yes, I will be a pretty awesome teen librarian someday.

P.S.If a library HR representative, or a hiring librarian is reading this, please fill out the short form on the Contact Me! page and I will send you my resume ASAP!

P.S.S. Seriously though, someone please hire me.

Back to the main event, you can see the picture below of everything that came in this months box. (I tried to be artistic and whatnot with the arrangement, however it didn’t really work out for me).

The theme for the box for this month was Dystopia and there were items from many different series like “Maze Runner, Shatter Me, The Hunger Games, and 1984.” There were a lot of things to be excited about in this box like the 1984 notebook that I immediately put in my purse incase I ever have a brilliant idea that I absolutely must make a note of. Also the Mockingjay Bracelet was super cool as well. I can’t wait to wear it out and show it off! However, I am most excited about the book for this month, “Flawed” by Cecelia Ahern. I mean that is the main attraction isn’t it? A brief description for this book can be found below.

Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan.

But then Celestine encounters a situation in which she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found FLAWED.

In her breathtaking young adult debut, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society in which perfection is paramount and flaws are punished. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her everything.
